Made my first avatar in Photoshop, Used a Splatter Effect with clipping, a gradient of Red,Green and a Soft Light with a Brush to give it the effect of the light from the sun.

V2 is better IMO. Colors are not my fav but the text is better

Mmm avatars dont require much usually. I mean mine is just a picture of me, feathered, and a gradient map.
