Increasing wireless adaptor speed?

How do you increase download speed when using wireless internet?
When it's wired directly from the modem, it's 160kb/s - 300kb/s average dl speed. But on my laptop with a built in adaptor, the max speed I get is 200 - 240kb/s. On average I get 100 - 130kb/s.

On my other computer, using a usb wireless adapter, the DL speed usually gets to about 50kb/s, sometimes even less. If i'm lucky, I get 70kb/s. Now this is a problem, because this computer is the one that I play games on because the laptop is shit and can't support a lot of games.

The adapter's router speed stays at 54mbps for a few seconds, then drops down to 24, then 11mbps, then sometimes 1mbps.

Anyone offer some help on this?

get closer to the modem/router.

or buy better internet.

It's in the roof, literally, and according to my sisters it's easier to travel down and get a better signal than before when it was downstairs.

get another wireless router and make a repeater bridge... that should, if anything, bring the signal a hell of a lot closer. that should increase speed too.

How do you suggest I do that?

go to teh computer section ?

Buy yourself a long as Ethernet cable. And run that bitch from the attic to your desktop.

For Australian Net that Shit house (Unless you only have ADSL)

Thirdly: It might not be the USB Dongle but the Router Itself and it's Wifi Antenna Output! Log into the Router and Check the Maximum Wifi Output! These Days the Minimum is 54mbps!

Fourth: It also help to have USB Wifi Dongles that Are of the Same Brand as Your Router! This helps a lot!

As for traffic statistics and above info, I clear/reset it every few hours, seems to help a bit.

It really depends on what company you are in :/

Sometimes its because too many people are on the internet at the time because eearly in the morning when I wake up it runs fast and mid-day runs slow and night it runs fast again.

I know your Problem! You have a Shit load if abnormal Noise on your line! Anything more than 6db is insane! Call up your ISP and tell the to check your line configuration and tell them to see if it's optimized for Gaming cause I can do that with my ISP or just change Online!

Say your router is upstairs, go next to it.

Shut other CPU's off, or any other electronic that runs on your internet
