It would actually be their fault for leaving their systems open. As of now, yes. ALL items/item commands are client sided. We aren't sending packets into their server, simply using a give command that was put in the engine by Valve Corp.

Unfortunatly that's not how real life works son, if you steal money from a bank because they left their vault open and they catch you, you're fucked. They won't buy the 'you left your vault open' excuse.

Internet related crimes work differently than real world crimes. I was warned just 2 years ago for "pirating" 2nd offense if I continued would be 5 years federal prison and 250,000$ fine. I stopped after that. 1 Movie isn't worth that trouble. So you know... If people wanna do the cash shop stealing, then so be it.

Besides, you're not pirating music or movies here. There is a distinct comparison to be made between the bank vault example and Nexon's IP that just happens to be running local to your machine through which you are acquiring their 'product' without giving them money. I don't believe that a 'victim' is ever required by law to send a cease and desist 'warning' before initiating legal action.

At any rate, should they choose to pursue you I doubt you can muster enough legal clout to beat them, neither would you even want to attempt to since a trial is ultimately more disruptive to your life than any likely settlement would be.

Of course, I don't know if you're spawning cash items or not. I'm just arguing in the abstract.
