I don't think there is much of a difference. Also @Pie the reload command is changemap_to_current_random_sector

exactly what id say
changemap_to_next_random_sector moves to the next level in the array, or increments the current level by 1 (which I think is why this works on lab)
changelevel 2 moves you 3 "stages" in the array (when it does have that many stages, otherwise it resets to next stage), that being stage 0, 1, 2. If you know how many floors are in a dungeon , you can successfully run to the desired room that way. Not sure that this would work for lab though, but it has worked on at least boats 1 through 4 for me a couple of weeks ago (I'd skip to boss floor or try to see if I can get a miniboss a lot of the time).
changelevel 2 moves you 3 "stages" in the array (when it does have that many stages, otherwise it resets to next stage), that being stage 0, 1, 2.
