Making A Mod, Modloader Compatible

As the title would suggest, i need help makin a mod compatible, please can someone help me out, i will tell u which files ive made atm

Basically, im making more food and ive made the texture n everythin but i dno how to make it heal how much i tell it too and also and to make it drop from cows apart from the "EntityCow.Java"

So, ive made:
mod_BeefRaw.java
ItemBeefRaw.java

Can you please help me im stuck because i even type "healAmount(j);" but it says unknown symbol argghhh please help im confused :L

Ive made it heal but, i dno how to make it drop from a cow anybody kno

ye but how do i make it so the cow drops it, what file do i edit?
