You're here because you're having an issue installing or using the most recent dashboard update. But don't despair! There are some troubleshooting steps below that should help with most update issues.
"I can't download the update."
If you're having an issue downloading the update, try one of these options for updating your console.
"I'm encoutnering an error message when I try and install the update."
Okay, first things first: if you're encountering an error message when trying to update your drive, make sure to try it again. If it's still not working (or if you've already tried), check to see if you have enough space available on your memory device. The download needs 190 MB (or 256 MB if you live in Japan).
If there's enough space on the drive, you'll want to clear your cache. You can do so by selecting 'System Settings' in the 'My Xbox' channel of the dashboard, navigating to 'Memory,' and then highlighting your device. With your memory device highlighted, press (Y) and select 'Clear Cache.
If you still cannot install the update, try removing and then reattaching the memory device. Lastly, if you downloaded the update from LIVE, try one of these options for updating your console.
"I'm getting a 24-digit error code."
If you're getting an error code of six four-digit numbers, please take a look at this official support page, which has troubleshooting steps for each error code that may appear. If you're encountering an error code that's listed nowhere on the page, please make a forum post with that information.
"I installed the update, by now my console won't read discs."
Consoles that have been previously modified, or sumbitted for an unauthorized repair may not be compatible with the new update. Unfortunately, these consoles are ineligible for repair, as modification and unauthorized tampering is prohibited by Section 12 of the Xbox Terms of Use.
If your console has not been modified or submitted for an unauthorized repair, please take a few minutes to work through the steps listed here. If those steps don't resolve your issue, please call your local phone support (800-4MY-XBOX in North America) for further assistance with the issue. If you have additional questions, please feel free to post in these forums.

So in other words, don't update if you want to keep your console flashed.
