I'm just gonna pop in and say that it's the president's job is to be:
Commander in Chief of the armed forces;
Chief executive of the federal government.
He develops federal policies, manages the national budget, enforces federal laws and appoints federal officers as the chief exec. of the federal government.
As Commander in Chief, he's responsible for keeping the country safe. He determines if we should send troops to war and if we should use nuclear weapons. This does not mean, however, that he decides if we go to war or not. That power lies soley in Congress.
