Are they actually worth the extra money or am I better of just getting a normal gaming desktop?

No. You can buy a MUCH better PC for the price of an Alianware, the only difference, that you don't get the fancy house with changable lights.

You can still get those kinds of cases, they cost hundreds, but still cheaper then Alienware
