TalkingThe best first programming language?

If you're going to learn C-Style languages, like C, C++, Java and the like, i would learn C#, or C to start. Because then you'll become familiar with the most commonly used syntax in the professional side of programming. If not then i would learn VB.NET, cuz its extremely high level and you'll be able to understand more what everything means.

In the end it's your decision, and no one can TELL you what to pick, you have to decide on your own.
You should start learning the language you wish to use. Nothing more nothing less
Let this thread die already.
hmmmm Malbolge is very EXTREME difficult.......

This is some handy information. Thanks a bunch. I'm still uncertain how to get started. What my goal is: create a Combat Arms Mod. Any help on how to achieve this would be great.

Modding doesn't have anything to do with programming.

OT: One last question, which programming language is easier, C# or VB.NET?

Try both and find out for yourself。

They are both very similar in terms of functionality. Syntactically they are quite different though. Just go with C#.NET

Both languages are almost equal in terms of functionality they offer. Choosing between C# or VB.NET should simply be a matter of personal preference and background. If you have already coded in C++ or Java, C# will definitely suite you, whereas if you have already coded in Visual Basic 6, VB.NET will be more attractive to you.

Seeing the frustration between choosing between two languages, starting from .NET 4.0 Microsoft has decided to "Co-Evolution" for both languages. This means that they both will offer exactly the same features in the upcoming Frameworks. C# 4.0 added named and optional parameters, something Visual Basic has had from the start, while Visual Basic 10 now supports auto-implemented properties that were in C# since version 3.0.

You can read more about it here:
VB and C# Coevolution - Scott Wiltamuth's Visual Studio blog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs
C++ is hard but if you master it you will make great programs.
#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main()
{
cout << "C is easy too dude";
return(0);
}

Yes, you just summed up exactly what C++ is: Printing stupid shit to the console. GG!

What is any language without it's packages. VB.NET would be up shit's creek if there was no .NET framework, Java would be even further upstream without the JDK and JVM, C#.NET would have the same problems as VB.

What I'm trying to say is, stupid point is stupid.

I Love You.
I didn't have much trouble learning c++ as a first language.
and if you want to make guis with c++ look up the Qt4 framework. it's great.
