Not got a clue

Hello, I am new to learning C++ and have a few questions. For a small program like punkbuster for example, how do I open DLL files to edit them? Also which files in the program would I open to change the way the program works?

If i'm talking crap then thats because I dont understand what I'm doing lol, im just going straight into it.
