You're obviously new to Steam. Valve tends to do free weekend events for various games, where the game is completely free to download and play for the weekend (and you play the full version, with all the things that paying customers have, your level you got in free weekends in Black Ops also saves, so you can, over all those shitty free weekends, if you're addicted enough, reach level 30+).
