What do what do?

Is mpgh a blackhat or a whitehat?

So, what would you do:

Say that you have been working with various programming languages over the years and work with security in your free time. One day you discover the computers you work with in your school/college/work are about as secure as the ones you find in your grandma's home(not secure).

Here's some perspective:

An oldschool blackhat:

Penetrate the systems and wreak havok on all the files on the computer, renaming them, randomly removing words from documents. Rerouting the intra-net to a porn site that kind of stuff.

A 'new' blackhat:

Penetrate the system and try to make financial profit, either by blackmail with the juicy security tapes of your boss/teacher and his/her secretary. Or by finding and plundering the main bank account of your company/school that kind of stuff.

The old/modern grayhat:

Pry a deal from the company/school. If you find a hole in their security during your 'legal' penetration tests, they'll owe you the big bucks.

The oldschool whitehat:

Full disclosure and POC of the exploits and exploitation means, to hell with the consequences.

The 'new' whitehat:

Show the sysop the error in his/her ways, without asking anything in return. kidda like master yoda.

So what would mpgh do exactly and what would you be in the table above?

Blackhat, quite obviously :3

Forum admins make money by selling VIP, and the little releases in each section gain thanks (woo!) from releasing their little hacking tools :3

I used to do this in my college. Now, I always look for such opportunities in university.

@freedompeace ya, I think I'd be blackhat too, but maybe not the kind to go after financial gain, if you get caught the penalty's are far more severe if the see that you tried to target critical systems right?

? I once hacked our high-school page with a few friends. It had obviously been a quicky for whoever set the page up, since the only thing one had to do was insert more then 20 characters in the password field and then the system would let you in. Too bad I played the whitehat that day, and told my IT teacher about it. He went of to get the credits :O

Oh, if you mean personally, then I guess I'm a bit of all of the above, depending on who I'm working for or the target.

I do a lot of oldschool blackhat hackery; it's fun :3

Lol, It didn't really matter since he was leaving anyway. And I liked the guy he'd always let you play games in his class when you were done with homework and stuff.
