I need to know.
I was removing some things the other day and I accidentally uninstalled something that I didn't mean to that apparently made it so programming files looked like notepad files. I am posting this here because I know there are people that would know what it is. I am willing to thank and add rep even though my rep doesn't do much, but I would really appreciate the help!
Do a system restore. I hope this was a pretty recent problem you did. It should redo and past revisions and restore your computer to the state it was before you had uninstalled that certain program.
What exactly files suddenly became a notepad type files when you did that?
If your case is with the .dll files, there's a solution for you: DLL file open with notepad - Microsoft Answers

Don't forget to reply back if worked or not...
I think the best thing to do is a System Restore.
You can do a system restore by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
