HDMI Problem

I bought a xbox 1 or 2 weeks later.
I bought a HDMI cable and tested in 2 full HD tvs.
The cable didn't work, i hooked the xbox, cutting a part of the AV cable.
I tried putting the two cables, tried to make the HDTV configuration process with the black screen (black screen appears with no signal).

So, can someone help me ?
Knows a process ?

buy a new one

hook it back up and you go to go to settings display and then make it hd. or something along those lines. i was pissed when i had to buy a new cable to use turtle beaches and it didn't work but then i found it did work just had to change the settings to hd.

is it the slim xbox? or regular? cuz if its slim it only comes with standard cable not HD.. i have HD and theres a switch on the side which will tell you if u want HDTV or TV
