APB Hacks Through Steam.
Hi!

I was just thinking, as you people will know if you use steam, it haves things that will pop up on screen during the game.
Also there is that logging in thing when the game is started.
Would it be possible to inject a .dll into Steam which is similar to those things that pop up on screen, but you could have a hack menu etc.
which pops up when you press shift+tab.
So instead you could have Steam (A trusted program by PB) hacking APB instead of injecting it directly into APB.

What do you think? I am not a coder, I understand nothing about it, so I do not know how it works, but I thought this would be
something to think about.

Regards

i believe you can make one with steam. i think you can use steam overlay or sumthin. im sure its possible
using interface of steam would definitely be possible i think, but when it comes down to a dll file it would need some kind of injector to actually inject the hack into the game as you would normally
Steam has NO injection capabilities as far as I know... would be sorta weird and pretty contradictory to their anti hack policies in games
And injecting a dll into a game launcher would have no effect on a game that is launched through it, from what I have seen

Well I don't start the game through the launcher. I click the shortcut that leads straight to the exe game file without having to go through the launcher.
Does that give you the Steam interface in game though Klawsome?
Yes it does, I have APB in completely different folder than Steamapps (on different HDD) and when i launch game with Steam running, the option to log thru steam and steam overlay are avaiable. When i run the game without steam running it acts like a normal APB
I just thought this might be a way to avoid PunkBuster completely. I doubt that they would run it for STEAM.
If any one is interested in having a look at this, why not give it a go? I can't because I have no experience at all
with C++
steam ads are very hoorible :S i ahte them but try to make an hack
i think u should not be missing around with steam so far i know they ban ur Ip on the spot and ur account also it also doesnt matter if ur a crzy hacker they will still catch up to u and once they do u can actually go to jail or pay a fee just putting it out there ;D
That is like in China or something where hacking a game can lead to jail or a fee...
not really anywhere else

Some how I don't think that changing the code of Steam to hack a game will get you put in jail, since it is only hacking a game. Look at G1, they only ban your account for hacking games, not find out where you live, and take you to court or something. It will cost allot more to take you to court than what they actually get back.
Also, they have nothing protecting the application like PB, so how can they tell that you have altered the code?
Wow, I didn't know this, good solution
I think this is possible. When you launch a game (steam or non-steam) Steam detects the game and launches a process I think is called SteamOverlay.exe. I believe that process injects a .dll file into whatever game you are playing and that shows the overlay ingame. Then, the .dll file updates your chat, friends list etc. through the process. I've gotten this information by playing BF2142. Everytime I joined a server with steam ingame enabled, I've been kicked in 10 minutes or less and I get this error that says PunkBuster doesn't recognise a .dll so then it kicked me. I can't remember which .dll it said though and I am to lazy to reproduce the problem. However, if PunkBuster doesn't scan steam, which some guy said up there, and we found that .dll file, maybe we could replace it with a hack and steam won't detect the change. Then Steam is tricked into injecting a hack into APB. This is my understanding of how steam ingame works.
God there are some idiots that post here.
I'm fairly certain PB still runs.
