What program is best for learning?
@'Bruno But I'm dutch and I suck at my language....
I think a good 90% of English-speaking Americans have horrible grammar, spelling, etc. At least, most of my friends do.
@op Buy a book, read it, do all the exercises etc. Maybe learn to use a compiler without a GUI/IDE and THEN get something like visual studio. Despite it being from Microsoft, Visual Studio is a great IDE.
Just for reference, IDE stands for Integrated Development Environment, which is basically a program that makes using a compiler a bit simpler. GUI stands for Graphical User Interface. A Compiler is a program that turns your source code (the code you write) into executable machine code (typically .exe or .dll on Windows).
You don't need these programs to actually write code, just to use it. You can use notepad if you have Windows. Source code files are basically text files, but with a different file extension. In C++, you would normally save your file as a .cpp file, so just put ".cpp" at the end of the file name when saving it. Also note that with notepad, you need to make sure it says "all files" and not "text file" or something, otherwise your file will end up as a text document(something like "mysource.cpp.txt"). Like someone else mentioned, learning from a book is better than learning from the computer, so if you can get your hands on a book do it. If you need help, PM me or post for help. A lot of people here will help you, it's a good forum.
