Regarding Computer HardDrive space.
Okay so two times now I have reinstalled vista on my computer service pack 1 blah blah blah 64-bit

However I just did it a hour ago and within that hour I installed the following.
-Graphic Card [Less then 500mb]
-WinRar
-Safari
-Java/ flash

I have now dropped down to 256GB out of 298GB?
I have already done

powercfg /hibernation off

however the windows folder is reading at 20.6GN and 17GB On disk
and every other folder is reading at 3.82GB

My question is why I am I losing the space? How do I gain it back, and how do I stop it from doing it again.
well if im correct are you reformatting or anything like that?
cause if you keep installing the OS over itself like that sometimes files get stuck in the "old files" its hard to tell its been so long since i used vista (the thing i described is a 7 thing) so im not sure what it does with reinstalled files..
UPDATE

so I disabled system restore which brought me to 275gb which is better then the 256GB I was at windows folder is still sitting at 20.6gb however.

Yes upon re installing the Operating system I do reformat it and format all disk drives. Which brings me to the full Compatibility of my systems harddrive but in hours its ran down. I just gained almost 20gb though.

I suppose that it would lol.
A folder might of kept your previous windows
Could be the "windows.old" folder or the OS files themselves. Could be wrong though.
When windows does an update it stores a back up... Try a Disc Cleanup & Clean up System Files...
The Windows OS is close to 20GB anyways. Only way to free up that space is to not have an OS.
Like @Ryan said, your OS is already about 20gb, and adding all that other junk its not gonna change a whole lot. Also, your Hard drive isn't EXACT amount, it's usually off a few gb.

Why are you so worried about having so much memory? When you have like 20gb LEFT then you should be worried...
