Playing Minecraft? I do infact, as it was one of those, "life changing experiences".
First of all, this was about somewhere around 1.7? 1.8 maybe - if I can remember correctly. Before I played Minecraft - I thought it was the gayest thing ever. I think it just looked completely stupid, and could never become viral. I was always on Xat in this time period, and we'd always debate why Minecraft is such a bad game, etc. Though, the funny thing is I never actually looked into it. Not once. I was just confident that it was stupid.
One day, I'm very bored. I'm a game scavenger and I'm always looking for games, because for some reason I'm jumping from game to game. One of the main reasons is because my computer is shitty as hell, 2GB RAM, and can't run any good games. So, one day I'm helping this guy with his computer over Teamviewer. I'm helping him setup some kind of CA hack I believe. Now, I notice on his desktop a Minecraft icon and after I'm done I start asking him about it, etc. He comes over on my computer, and sets me up with the cracked Minecraft. I was shrugging off Minecraft and being like, "I won't like it", but the guy was like, "Dude you will. Trust me, just try it". So, he got off my computer, and I loaded it up and he helped me get started. I then told him how much lag I was getting, and he told me to change all my settings. (I now run Minecraft on ALL lowest settings. Fast graphics, Power saver, etc).
I didn't even know how to break a block at this time and I had to ask him a bunch of stuff, and then he gave me a Wiki tutorial to go by. So, I basically followed it. Made a house on the side of a mountain, you know the deal. Though, I was learning about mobs, and how to make different stuff and then I reach a brink; the food meter. I am constantly losing hearts and I'm freaking out because I made this super awesome house, and had all these supplies and I didn't want to die. The friend tells me it was a stupid thing Notch implented, and you have to eat food, etc.
That's all I remember, but it was a good experience. I didn't buy my account, "Inhale_" until about 2 weeks after that. I fell instantly in love with Minecraft, and here I am now.
So, do you remember your first time playing Minecraft? If so, explain your story. /storytell
Not much of a story, it was back around the time 1.4 was out. I played Classic in the browser because I was on Skype with a friend and he was like "Ha, fuck you society, I just destroyed the inside of a tree and left it hanging in the air." or some shit along those lines.
So I was like, WHOA WHOA WHOA WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU PLAYING!? And he's like "Minecraft". So I decided to start playing it since it had become such a sensation. I loved it and played it all the time but was mad I couldn't save. I made my own server of classic and invited friends to play on it just so I could have to ability to save.
It was then that I realized there's a Beta to a newer version of the game that I can save in single player on and etc. It's OK because the person I had hosting my server for me was a dick anyways, and that server died when I left. So I got a crack for Minecraft beta 1.6 and have been playing with that ever since. A few days ago I finally fulfilled a promise to my friend to make a Minecraft server for us (of actual Minecraft) so I did and have been playing the shit out of it with him. ^_^
P.S: I hated food at the beginning too but now it makes the game kind of fun, especially when playing with others.
