Basic jungle
Things to think about:
1. Do I have the enemy red/blue warded?
2. Is my red/blue warded?
3.4. Are any of my lanes gankable?
4. Do I have timers on the enemy lizard and small golems?
5. Is the enemy jungler dead or have I forced them to recall?
6. Is dragon up and warded?
7. Is my bottom lane in position to dragon?
8. Have I done dragon?
When do I use smite?
Smite should only ever be used in counter-jungling, or buff defense. My lanes should give me a sufficient leash and damage to ensure that I can get my first buff and level 2 without using my smite. Upon reaching two I need to immediately go into the enemy jungle and ward the enemy red. The lane that did not help me with my initial buff should guard my buffs until 1:55 by watching the entrances to the jungle. I should wait in a safe bush in close proximity to the enemy red and allow the enemy to engage the red buff. When the enemy jungler is sufficiently low for me to kill in 1-2 attacks, I should ambush the enemy jungler. If the red buff is dying significantly faster than the enemy jungler I should smite-steal the enemy jungler's red from the fog of war and then immediately exit the enemy jungle.
----
When I am counter jungling I need to let the nearest allied lanes know I am counter-jungling and make sure they know to keep a close eye on their lane opposition at all times until I am safely out of the enemy jungle. People don't always see pings, so I should use team chat to ensure my team is aware of the fact that I am actively counter jungling the enemy jungler.
---
Ganking:
When I am going to gank an allied lane I should let my allies know long before I arrive, and I should let them now what route I will take into lane. It is my lanemate's job to respond to the notice and inform me of the location of any enemy wards.
---
Warding: It is my responsiblity to maintain wards on the enemy red at all times. This provides buff control and early warning to my allied lanes regarding the enemy jungler's position. it is also my job to ward Baron / dragon if for any reason my top or bottom lanes have not done so. Wards do not expire and so I can keep my 6th slot open for wards until late game. Wriggles alone is not enough map control.
---
Things my allied laners should know: It is not my fault if they are losing their lanes to their lane opposition. My primary duties as jungler are buff control and counter-jungling. If I am keeping the enemy jungler from assisting his lanes and I have buff control/distribution I have done my part. Ganks are the responsibility of all involved. My allied laners are the ones that need to initiate the ganks so I can join the fight in a way that prevents any escape. If my allied laners do not have vision wards at tri-bush and dragon then they should not request ganks as they do not know where the enemy jungler is, or what parts of their lane is warded.

Did you know that... Junglers generally enter lanes at 3/4 to 1/2 health. With proper warding , positioning and defensive play you can often initiate on an enemy jungler as they come into lane and force them out of lane, if not kill them before their team mates can move to assist!
hope this helps you develop and understand more of the jungle!Enjoy!
