• When do you receive this error message?
If you receive this error message only while opening a certain application, then I would suggest that uninstalling and reinstalling the application might fix the issue.
However if you are receiving this error message when you open Internet Explorer then I would recommend that you run System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer, the scan replaces the corrupted system files with the original version of Windows Files on the computer; follow the steps below to run the scan:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
When the scan is complete, test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved.

If the issue still persists, then I would suggest disabling and re-enabling the Internet explorer option from Windows Features on or off might help you to fix the issue.
1. Click Start.
2. Type in optionalfeatures.exe in Start Search.
3. Uncheck the Internet Explorer 8 from the list in Windows Features Window.
4. Now restart the computer.
5. Follow Step 1 and Step 2.
6. Now put a check mark for Internet Explorer 8.
