Giving up IT

so after i graduated at highschool, i always wanted to do something with computers. iam now at 1st year of university and studying Communication & Multimedia Design. So far i have learned html/css/PHP/Basic java/PS/SQL(database apps)/ASP and starting asp.net but for a while i have doubts whether IT is my thing or not. IT is an education where u have to study and study for the rest of your life. it just won't stop, new things come and u gotta learn them etc and it just won't ever stop. besides that, the salary of well educated it'er isn't that much. And to be honest i don't wanna sit behind my pc for the rest of my life. I considered to become a detective cuz of the status, salary, the rush and the being busy with everyday life and also able to deal XD what do u guys think i should do, comments pls.

I know programming doesn't require life time of studying because, if you learn one language, you pretty much learn them all. Most of the time if you are learning a new language, you just have to look up the syntax e.g. (std::cout, echo, printf, trace). Also being a detective isn't a bad idea, but you probably have to work odd hours, have to work at a desk for years before that, pass an entrance exam (intelligence required), and probably be good at those mystery puzzles that have you fill in the grid based on hints (Bob went to the store at 6 AM and bought Pizza, but the guy bigger than him went a 4 AM), and they get really complex on the advanced levels. :/

become self imployed feb 09 i started gardening/landscapeing business. with the help of my dad ( because im not old enough to drive cars/vans yet ) ive already covered my starting costs including public insurance cost of van and tax as well as tools and started making profit as of last saturday. i worked 30 hours this week and made £600 after fuel paying my dad for driving me and fuel costs im down to £530

Most programmers enjoy their jobs, or at least I do. It's not really about the money(although when I get a job, I'll need it to support a family and myself, etc). If you truly enjoy programming, you'd do it even if you didn't have to. You don't have to give up IT all together if you still like programming and want to chose a different career. I've thought about stopping for a while to boost my grades up, but simply put, I can't.
