Forceing resolution

Every time i set resolution below 1024x768 ( like 640x480) the screen starts flickering and it resets to 1024x768 again....
How to fix it... I want minimal lag as possible

I have seen people play in for example 640x400 ( even 240x320 is possible). I know how to change but it wont stay like it.
After 10 sec its resets to 1024x768

Go to the game install folder and look for the file containing the graphics settings.
