Formating PC

How do I delete all the files on my computer? (Like formating PC, but being able to boot windows 7 from a cd)
If I format my Local Disk C: and it deletes my files can I still boot windows 7 installation from the CD?

When you re-format there is a option to parition your drives.. and that will wipe and freshly install a new windows your computer.

op is a pc genius.

obviously you can boot the cd without anything on your hard drive.

there were times when computers didn't even have hard drives

you cannot format the OS drive while you are running the OS. You must do this from a boot up and not enter windows. That is why you are seeing the error. Remember a format erases the entire contents of the drive and since the program you are running to format the drive is on that driver you are in effect erasing that program while its running.

What you need to do is put your OS disk into the driver and boot up from it. At the beginning will be an option to choose the partition or drive to install windows on as well as a option to format the drive. This is the point at which you need to format the drive.

Because you are trying to format from windows

reset your computer, boot from the installation media and format there, then install

Luckily since I am still running DOS and Windows 3.11 I can format from the OS if I want aha suckers!

Make a fabric recover.
Turn off pc, turn on, click F8 alot of times, until it appears a menu.

My other computer isn't custom either. If your computer came with Windows Vista preinstalled, but then you upgraded to Windows 7, you won't be able to factory restore

Click more options or something and click format.
