If you need to quit mpgh to get yourself together, than thats what you have to do.
Stop loathing around in your self hatred and try to think positive. Noone wants to be around a person that is always negative so whatever happened move on. You have your whole life ahead of you(If you stop the drugs dumb ass). Your 17-18 bro, you live until your 75+. The way I see it is "there is nothing new under the sun", meaning someone, somewhere, has gone through the same shit that your experiencing right now. I don't know about you, but that gives me comfort to know that Im not experiencing my shit alone and that someone has already overcome their shit that they were struggling with.
What Im trying to get at is your not the only one experiencing whatever your experiencing. Theres billions of people on this earth with worse, or the same shit going on as you are. you will overcome it.

Hes like this because hes been living moment by moment. Hes fucked up because hes not listening to others. Thats his problem. If people better off than you tell you that you need to do something, they have credibility because there farther ahead than you. He needs someone in RL that can help him with his problems.
