The Chicken came first. The egg itself is not considered a self-reliable organism. There is an exact point in the evolutionary chain in where the modern-day chicken emerged. At the exact point of birth it is considered a chicken.

The chicken since the egg needs something to watch over it and keep it warm in order to develop and hatch. Even when the newborn hatches out of the egg, it's still relies on something to feed it. And I don't think anything else but a mother chicken would be willing to feed it instead of feeding on it.

Evolution came first.
