How do i idle in tf2?

i found many idle tools but i never saw an explanation of the way to idle.. can someone explain?

well, you just start the game, join your favorite server and... don't play.

Idling will not get you any extra drops, it's like normal playing where you get drop every one hour with classic drop limit, therefore there is no reason to idle if you also play the game.

Idling for drops would only be used for example when you are sleeping. And once you get the maximum amount of drops for the week (I think it 14) then there is no point in idling until Thursday when it resets.
