New Graphics Options
As we all know and have complained about, adding something new or changing something old will have good sides and bad sides. I'm not going to get into the sounds and I will NOT allow this thread to be derailed by such discussion either.
Instead, we are discussing the lag/feel that comes with new graphics.
Introduced way before my time were shadows and outlines.
More recently, particles when a player bullet hits a wall or obstacle have been introduced.

My proposition
New toggles in the Graphics (and Chat) tab of the Options menu.
Toggle Outlines
Positions: On/Off
Effect: When On, you get a pixel of black trim around all transparent edges of a sprite. When it's off, you get just the colours.
Toggle Shadows
Positions: On/Off
Effect: When On, the bottom half of the sprite has darkened colours along with a circular shadow below them. When Off, the colours do not scale at all, and all you get is the sprite.
Toggle Particles
Positions: High/Low/Few/Off
Effect: When set to High, you get the amount of particles as normal. When set to Low, you get 25% of them. When Few, only Heals and Bombs show up, and at the 25% rate. When Off, no particles fly out from blood, grenades, walls, etc etc etc.
Toggle Map Blending
Positions: On/Off
Effect: When On, adjacent tiles of a different dryness will stretch their edges into each other, creating a smoother landscape. When Off, tiles does not merge with the adjacent tiles, creating a blockier effect.
Toggle Bullet Layers
Positions: 1 2 3 4 5 6
Effect: Exactly what F6 used to do. It will toggle which parts of the bullets appear, and brightness/contrast.
Toggle Text Bubbles
Positions: On/Off
Effect: When On, whenever a player on your screen speaks, a bubble with their text appears above their head, covering bits of the screen. When Off, nothing appears above their heads and their text appears solely in the chat at the bottom of the screen.
Toggle Chat Overlay
Positions: All/Few/Tells/Off
Effect: When All, the chatbox can extend to the top of the screen, preferable for casual discussions in the Nexus. When Few, you get the same amount of lines as you do currently. When Tells, you will only see /tells sent to and from you. When Off, only Chat Bubbles will appear, unless those are set to Off, too.

Turning all four of the first to Off gets you the style of sprites you see in the really old screenshots, which could possibly cut a lot of the experienced lag out.
One warning about Toggle Particles: Off, though...Bombs and Heals will be really hard to notice, if possible to see at all.
Feel free to suggest your own options, and if I like them or they get enough support, I'll put them up here, too.
Not All need to be done, i prefere the particles one first
