If they are stealing people's steam accounts they probably have access to their email aswell, so they can just enter the steamguard code.

right, and you are saying this can be compared to the current cdkey situation? account theft takes much more than just the user clicking some key stealer on YT without even knowing that he just gave his key away. you actually have to "convince" him to give you access to his email as well.

my point is that there simply wont be the same masses (by great magnitude) of stolen accounts because its much more complicated to get people to give their account away.

I can't tell if you're being purposely dense or you're just naive. Do you realize there is malware that is specifically designed to be modular and have the capability of stealing login information for many types of accounts? It steals your steam login credentials, your email credentials, your online dating credentials, etc. There is no need to "convince" anyone. Just a piece of malware with the ability to spread in a multitude of ways.

These accounts can then be sold in batches. For example, if you peruse certain forums you will find batches of emails up for sale, or maybe batches of Bank of America/Paypal logins.

There is no need to social engineer someone out of their login credentials. Nowadays all you need is a Java or Browser exploit (it doesn't even need to be recent) and you can drive-by download your way to stolen account mecca. And yes, it almost always is as easy as having a dumb end user click a link on youtube.

what you're talking about is way beyond the dumb cd-key-type of stealing known from these forums, which is my point. re-read the last sentence of my last post.

what you are talking about is advanced hacking attacks, none of which most of the kiddies are capable of. of course once such an elaborate attack takes place anything is possible (even though it's a bit tricky to steal email passwords that are not stored on a PC, i.e. in case of web clients), but that wasnt my point to begin with.

my point was that successfully stealing steam accounts (and not arbitrary ones collected globally but those that actually have the game you are looking for) is much harder than simple key theft. this is obviously proven even if the posters in this thread dont want to admit that.

None of that shit is advanced broseph. You can buy the kind of malware I'm talking about on "underground" forums for cheap, and even pay someone to set it up and spread it for you. So I'd say that kiddies are very capable of it. All they need is their mommies credit card (or, hell, even a stolen one will do the trick!) Want to target people with the games you're looking for? No problem, just post your malware on forums/utube channels dedicated to that game.
