Hello everyone, I decided to take a break from War Rock stuff and move to combat arms. After running into some problems with this skinning I finally got it to work!
Anyways....
I am uploading my first skin(not very good) I just wanted to get used to this, so here is, my Blue cubed K1A.
Screen:
text never looks good on a mod, but other than that its pretty good!
I don't see very much effort, but good job on your first mod.

Yeah I didn't put that much effort into it. I am currently working on something else right now that has much better FX on it
It seems pretty dark but I like the colours

Yeah the text is a bit out of place. and I'm glad you like it
Just a few quick pointers:
Lose the text. Generally speaking, the text gets warped since guns are held at an angle; only a select few guns are held at an angle where text has the potential to look good. This isn't to say it can't be done, but it requires a lot more modding experience to completely comprehend what you're doing. Also, people generally don't like using mods with other people's names in it.
Don't use a simple gradient/pattern across the entire gun. The way the .dtx files are set out, pieces of the gun are placed everywhere, oftentimes with pieces rotated. If you do overlay an entire gun, it often looks like a mess in-game.
Don't have different coloured chunks on the body. What you really want is for the gun to blend well. Although this may sometimes involve two/three different coloured blocks (any more is generally overcrowded), you have to place it in a way that flows with the body, not by force.
Get to know the files before you mod. Even if you don't own/can't access the gun, you should be able to determine what correlates to what in-game. You can do this by opening a .dtx file and looking at an in-game ss (just google [gun name] combat arms). The easiest gun to mod is the L96A1, and although it is quite overdone, is a great place to practice some essential modding skills.
Plan what you're going to do. Look at an in-game ss and just imagine what you're trying to create. This will help you when you begin to mod as you'll know what kind of colour you want and where.
With that being said, this IS one of the better first mods. I know that if you listen to the advice of the members you will be able to improve with experience.
Just another quick note as well: try not to take in-game ss with modifications attached as it can sometimes block/change how the guns looks (scopes especially).
