Creating My First Program

I have been studying some coding languages for a while now (python/lua) via their websites.. although the one topic they do not seem to go over, is actually making the program itself. I did lua coding for a while when I made games on (yes.. I know its a horrible game..) Roblox. Roblox basically just had you insert the scripts into the in game items you have built and call them out to do certain functions, etc. But what I am wondering now, what software do you suggest to use to begin my first actual program?


tl;dr: What should I use to make programs in lua/python?

Maybe you should ask in the programming section of these forums (http://www.mpgh.net/forum/27-coders-lounge/)? You'll probably get more responses then what you've gotten so far in this section. Personally, I haven't coded in lua/python. I know they are scripting languages, I'm not sure if they compile into anything though. You should be able to do a good deal with them just like any language.
