There were 1 star spammers before kabam did this. Not too many shops are going to go out of their way to star their spammers (maybe @cehrenr will). It would be funny to to see a shop go through all that effort only to get their bot banned.

It doesn't matter to me much though because we can increase the star requirement and use /ignore for those rare spammers that have multiple stars.

I have mixed emotions about this change.
Honestly the team got kind of lazy when attempting to fix this spam issue.

This is good progress but for the overall appearance of the game to new players, it's bad.
They REALLY need to implement a server-sided solution to block spam in the first place.
Imagine being a new player and everyone has you filtered, people are filtering you in the COOP MMO BULLET HELL SHOOTER, very misleading.

A 10 word block-list does not equate to a server sided solution to spam.

Scripting /tutorial?

Haven't we all learned that a block list will not fix the issue? Shops will just spend time to get around the block like they have in the past. At least this solution fixes the problem even if it isn't perfect.

I've been hearing people talk about this. Can you really level up your char this way? How long would it take?

I use my own 18 keyword list which filters out spam-bots completely. The only reason it remains effective over time is because it is not used by the masses.

How about an intelligent way to block them, like every other MMO has?
For example:
- Oh you've been spamming the same sequence of messages for 20 minutes?
- Oh you've been spamming every 1-2 seconds for over a few minutes?
- etc

They could also dynamically add words to the filter list, it's not rocket science.
They're making steps but not really the right ones for a coop mmo.

That is far to complicated for RotMG developers to implement successfully. Even large scale MMO games are usually awful at detecting spam-bots.

We all know that Kabam isn't the smartest company. They really don't show any support for newcomers, like when they remover pot drops from gods and now this. What will Kabam think of next to deter new players?

Well am I only one who thinks that blocking players entirely is anti-coop? Is that not an issue?

I like it. But I changed it so it would block players below 30 stars if I wanted.

A new player being bombarded with rwt spam is not good for the "overall appearance of the game" for them.

They could either think the game devs don't give a shit about the bots (because there are so many)

or

they could feel unwanted because they have people ignoring them by default.

1 star isn't much effort. I wont bother with bots any higher than the default setting, but I DO have a very large stockpile of accounts with various star ratings I could use if need be. Even a handful of yellows, god forbid. But yea, they would (and currently are) being banned pretty fast. Buuut its all pretty easy to automate, so whatevs.

No. /tutorial barely gets a character to level 2-3 on the first run through. Far easier ways to get bots accounts stars than that crap. Right now, you can get a dozen 5 star accounts in an hour (give or take) - so banning out the bots is a monumental (read:impossible, I have more time in a day than they do, and I can probably automate bots) task for the GM team. But, as long as the default filter stays at 1 star, its not a big deal. I've said a million times in the past, there is no desire for me to force people who don't want to see the bots to see them.

Fuck, if it was up to me RWT would just be allowed back on the forums and I could take the bots down altogether. C'est la vie.
