i said "im not hacking, im modem taping"
he replies "oh nice, is it a public hack?" LMFAO
and keeps asking me what site.

go to a bizaar or pond shop.
not too many stores sell older os's.
vista is fine, hacks are one of its rare disabilities. dont worry
