Started with DB Pokemon and Digimon.
Because art and animation were far superior to western cartoons when I was a kid (and still are IMO) I liked them more and got addicted to it, mainly because I either liked some show a lot or because had nothing to do.

Well, I began watching childhood anime, then when that was done I started with One Piece because a friend or two watched it, after that I watched TMoHS

I mean, I didn't know anime was classified different from American stuff when I was a kid, I thought they were all cartoons. So the first thing I watched as an ANIME, was Naruto. I watched Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon as a kid, but those were overshadowed by things like JL and JLA and etc. Plus, like I said, I didn't really know there was a difference so I didn't care.
I really hate when people try to compare American and Japanese stuff, at the end of the day, they're both fucking epic.

There's a HUGE difference between American and Japanese cartoons but that should be pretty damn obvious. With thousands of mangaka writing and only a few getting anime adaptions compared to the american way it's quite a bit different. Though neither american's nor Japanese created animation it's fair to say that Japanese improved animation and made it popular. Also you can't forget about all the grotesque things that Japanese people animate while Americans can't because it's either immoral or illegal ex; lolicon. So Japanese animation overall is better and not limited like American animation.
I feel as if cartoons fail on any level outside of "adult" comedy like southpark/family guy/futurama when aiming for an audience of teenagers and up. Comic book adaptations are usually the best example of this since the idea and original story are bother pretty good but the cartoon implementations are just awful.
