If you’ve living under a rock you might not have heard that Net Neutrality has been abolished. It was governed by the FCC & it was decided in court they don’t have the power to oversee this. So why does all this nerd talk matter? Net Neutrality is what kept the freedom of the internet alive. With this gone you as a consumer are no longer the first priority. Corporations are once again proving who runs the United States.
Your internet service provider now is able to do as they please. Throttling is now legal. Do you to play games online? Or how about Stream Youtube, Netflix or Hulu? Your internet provider could decided hey this person is using too much data, so lets jack up there fees. They can create bull shit “Gaming Packages” or “Streaming Packages” to squeeze more money out of you. It also hurts streaming services like Netflix & Hulu because fewer people will have access to it, thus less income for them, thus jobs are lost.
Oh but it gets worse! Your internet service provider now has the ability to block whatever sites they deem untrustworthy. Do you like watching porn? Well Comcast & Verizon could wake up one day and decide they don’t like Pornhub & with the flip of a switch you can now no longer beat your meat. Do you like Torrents? Kiss that shit good-bye! Whether you agree someone should or shouldn’t be using said services is debatable since people have different moral compasses. What isn’t debatable is how foul it is that now your internet service provider decides morally what’s good for you and what isn’t. This is just one more example of your freedoms being stripped from you. If you’re not American this affects you too. Other countries tend to follow trend, so don’t be shocked if this happens in the UK or other places.
Not all hope is lost though. An appeal will be made which would take this case to the Supreme Court where hopefully this will be ruled unconstitutional. If not prepare for your wallets to be royally fucked in the butt & your internet to be censored. If you’d like to take action feel free to sign the Restore Net Neutrality petition.
