Please explain these two Ending Quotes...

I've watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children & The Matrix Revolutions many times now but I find their ending quotes utterly meaningless, I just can't get it. Someone please explain the meaning behind these two quotes from the movies mentioned above:

Final Fantasy

Sephiroth: Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away.
Cloud: You just don't get it. There isn't a thing I don't cherish!

I really don't understand what the purpose of this dialog is. Does it simply mean that Cloud cares about everything equally? Even so it's really shallow.

The Matrix

Agent Smith: Wait. I've seen this. I stand here, right here, and I'm supposed to say something. I say, "Everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo."
[pause]
Agent Smith: What? What did I just say?

I don't get the purpose of this dialog either. Does it mean that even Agent Smith must have an end? Again, if that's the meaning, it's really shallow and simple.

However I can explain the matrix to you.

In that quote, it's not actually Agent Smith speaking, it's the oracle speaking THROUGH agent smith. The reason I say this is that Agent Smith never called Neo anything other than Mr.Andersen did he?

This makes neo understand that the only way to beat smith is to let smith take control.

Can someone please explain the quote from Final Fantasy?

For a guy who writes poetry that the world can never "truly understand" it's pretty sad that you're stumped over simple to read into things like FF/Matrix. The ending to FF was to show how much Cloud has changed from a cynical asshole who destroys everything to a guy who cares about everything, no matter how small or insignificant. It means he learned to cherish everything.

It's obvious that he has learned to cherish everything but what does this have to do with the battle? Why does Sephiroth's question have such a great effect on Cloud? What's the significance of Cloud's reply? That's what I don't get.
