The ONLY thing to me that feels even the slightest bit off putting that what's supposed to be black is more of a dark gray.. and then somehow feels off because it's not darker.

That's reducing the shadows. A lot of people like it, but it's not for everyone.

I dig it.
Gives a vintage vibe.
I like vintage shit.
Looks amazing, i'm no photography wiz (at all) so i know nothin, except the fact it looks good.
Looks great. I like the reduced shadow effect, works really well
Very nice picture, something about the dark gray though it is sort of an eye sore... I think it makes it look harshly filtered.
Beautiful.
When you planning on going back and taking more ATL pictures? Would love to see more of that style work from you.
A very good shot. I'd say perfect, if not for the woods on the bottom, they're black and somehow throw me off.
But that's my opinion.

I have no idea. I would love to get down there soon, especially since it won't be freezing like last time.

I'd tend to disagree, I feel it adds to the overall warm-color palette of the photo. A darker black would throw the feeling off, and make it a bit more gloomy to due to too much contrast for the style.
