Retail CD key

Hello, I was banned like year ago before GameSpy died and never logged back with banned key, so I still able to play on Arma 3 and SA. I know that if I repurchase the game from steam store I will get same key, but I also have a retail version with CD-Key and BE announced that now retail versions can be activated on steam. So, if I delete Arma 2 OA through support and activate my retail version with new key, it will do the trick and I will be able to play OA through steam? Just wondering if someone checked this out already.
