#Lesson 5 - Modifying text buffers

This function is pointless on itself but it's to proof a point.
After reading this you should be able to modify any buffer you want.

We are going to modify the name of WarRock.
So in Task-Manager w get our own name.
First of all we need to open our debugger (i'm using IDA Pro).
It's so simple that we are just going to type in the text we want to modify.
Look for the text "WarRock".
After a bit of searching we should get this string.

As you can see the adress from our buffer is: 0x008C807C
Then when we go to hex view we should see the following bytes highlighted:

Each byte represents a letter.
Code:
57 61 72 52 6F 63 6B 00
As you see we only have 8 bytes, meaning we CANNOT have more bytes, we cannot go override another function.
If we would have 9 bytes, when our buffer is only 8 long, we would be writing in the next function, which will probably cause a crash!
If you need more you can add 9 bytes + 27 (which is the length of the following buffer, this one does not get used unless you modified your WordFilter, so you can have up to 36 bytes!).

EDIT: Made a mistake, it's 7 bytes for the name, 1 for the LUA script, meaning you can only use 7 bytes + 27 if overriding next buffer, so up to 35 max!

Now that we know our bytes (which can also be counted "WarRock" <- 8 long) we can replace this with ours.
It's as simple as this:

Well, the name is actually incorrect but don't mind about that.
We use this function to write our bytes to the buffer, to replace their text with ours so to speak.

Using this function

This overrides the original buffer with our text.

The result

If you think about it, how much fun you can have with this!
You can call diffrent textures, sounds, etc with diffrent functions.
You can modify game text, names etc.
The same with the new WarRock INT banner, it can be disabled using stuff like this

Because admit it, having this popup every time you play or test something is annoying!

Any questions? Drop them below!
dat banner.
good job and nice share.
Good Job! Great Tutorial...
