Programing VS. Networking



Simple thread, I have decided to take some study time..
i enjoy both, my school is shitty, but it dose its job..
coming next year kids will be split, between the two groups
and i have a rather long time to go... before i have make my final decision.

What i am asking is, which would get me paid more, if i got training in such a career field.

Obviously i will be trained in both things according to my teachers.

but still mpgh, help make a wise choice

Programing or Networking

Depends on job openings. but i see more high paying job for networkers(managers2).

Programming is like a code-monkey to me.

Programmers are always on demand, and if you create new applications you can see some $.. its all on how much you want to advance on that field.

For now, it would depend...

I have a CCNA
(I assume you're talking about cisco type networking)
Its a hard cert to get..
2 part test..
Lots of shit codes like
*enable
*configure terminal
*enable password cisco
*enable secret class
*interface fastethernet 0/4
*no shutdown

You get the hang of it.. and if its cisco you get a online account w/ a online curriculum.

Programming applies for a wider field..
I don't know much about certifications or college programming classes.

However both fields require constant learning/ practice / and updating skills.

I'd go with programming.

Programming is more productive.

I'd go for programming,

it's a wider job field and coders are always on demand.
And you could also develop your own software an catch lots of $$.

Well both you can pretty much learn on your own if you wanted to, but it's not as if your not going to be programming anymore when you get into networking, it will just be stuff such as programming networks So you'll just learn different languages, maybe Oracle or PHP or something, I'm not sure all the languages that are specific for networking.

You would want to learn programming perhaps if you really wanted to get into a development job, but I think programmers know a little bit of networking and networkers (a word?) are still programmers. It's just what you want to do more specifically, you can always switch over as well.

Computer Science isn't like most science Majors like Chemistry or Biology. It's really easy to find books on programming, and a lot of people are self taught so it's not like this decision decides the rest of your life.

The Intelligent people say programming. and so do I.
