VAC threat

Hi guys , I just have this question i my head.
Is using an external simple crosshair get you VAC banned ?
I mean if it's an external application that just shows a crosshair , is there any chance that you will get VACed ?

If it isn't injecting in game files, u shouldn't get a VAC.

If it isn't reading memory or messing the the client at all than no it shouldn't get VACed.

But if u hook directx i think there is a chance to get banned or?
