project for newbies?
Ha everyone,
I just took a c++ class this semester and summer is around the corner. I figured it would be nice if I can apply my learning into game "hacking" so I am wondering where should I start?
I mean i've used cheat engine and wpe and all but never actually "create" any workable cheat.
I am playing a moba game called smite and will wallhacking this game be a good place to start?
Or maybe there are so expert out there need some help to do the tedious work?
Nice job on completing the course! You should try making basic hacks for Microsoft's pinball. It would get you familiar with reading and writing memory (something you may have covered in your class).
A fairly basic hack will incorporate these topics
1. Find the game functions otherwise you will have to browse forums and find the addresses that way.
a. Find game variables which are commonly in data structures.
2. Hooking (Google Microsoft Detours)
3. Many games are packed, so you may have to dive into that realm if your game requires it. If its a common packer then there should by and Olly script for it.
4. Dll Injection (of course)
Each one of these can be extensively explored. I recommend making your own console application and
1. Find all of your functions
2. Inject it with a dll
3. Hook a function or two
Once you have gone through and understand the WinAPI calls then take a look at source code for game hacks to learn how they are applied to games. Keep in mind this may take a while, like a week or two.
Every game is different and may require you to reverse it, which may be a bitch if you haven't had a computer architecture class. There are actually books on amazon for reversing which are helpful. The reason I bring reversing up is that sometimes you have to examine the anti-cheat system. You can hook a critical function and modify the check. Many of these systems are advanced and send out a heartbeat to a server, so you may need to even replicate that which would require messing with sockets. I know the boost library has a library which abstracts sockets nicely. Otherwise just work with berkely sockets, its not as bad as people make it out to be.
Oh yeah. if you want to remain undetected look into kernel programming and inject your stuff from ring 0. This is a long and tedious path.
