1st one looks like text with a galaxy pasted over it--which it is.
2nd one doesn't look 3d. Looks like drop shadow, unless that's what you were going for. Try modeling it in cinema 4d and then adding the effects with PS.

I really like the second one, not such a big fan of the first. In my (unskilled) opinion, it looks sort of basic.
All of this is basic.
Try working on adding more renders, and c4d's
