2 SP00KS 4 ME
Released on April 25th, Outlast 2 is the horror game sequel to Outlast and Outlast: Whistleblower
It's story/plot has no connection to its predecessor.
Suddenly my subscriber feed got filled to hte brim with Outlast, so I watched almost all of it.
For me the game feels pretty "ehhhhhh" compared to its predecessor. It is pretty good but never feels as scary and the plot feels pretty choppy and hazy compared to the first. It definitely went beyond the call of duty to have good graphics and delve into the most sickening parts of existence but despite this never reaches the same kind of pure horror the original has.
Most of the horror comes from the ambience, silence, and darkness that anticipates a jumpscare to pay off, which it does. However, the original had the dread of seeing someone getting their balls cut off and knowing you're next which is never experienced here. Both maintain a creep factor with its cast.
It still runs into the "not so clear" objectives/where to go like the first occasionally has as well as some movement issues. However, neither of these are significant problems.
The plot is central around religion and societal and mental health. It explores these cultist christians who believe one person "father Knoth" is a prophet of god. They are some "stupid southerners" ho lets Knoth rape their kids, rape their kid's kids, and kill their becuase they might be hte anti-christ. These heretics are another faction who believes in satan's greatness and worships him and the antichrist. You and your wife investigate after finding a pregnant women from te area who dies from mercury poisoning and for some reason both groups think your wife has the antichrsit. Now you got to deal with that problem and get out.

Seen some comments saying the story is connected to the Murkoff corporation. They say that through the notes that you can pick up there is one called the "Old Traveller" from someone that seems to suggest that the person writing it is from the Murkoff corporation in Mount Massive Asylum and is experimenting on the townsfolk. The light that keeps on appearing blasting in the game is from a radio tower that affects the minds of both the townsfolk and animals.
Original Document:
Transcription of what is written:
Jenniffer Roland (employee in Mount Massive author of "Old traveller" mentions which suggests he is also from Mount Massive):
This seems to suggest that Blake and the cultists of both sides are going under some hallucinations from the tower and that is why you go insane over Jessica throughout the game (by the end of the game your recordings of Lynn has your narration on it and the narration is you talking as if you're still in 4th grade with Jessica). Your guilt over Jessica's death is what the towers unravels in your mind and it makes you go insane by the very end.
Blake's thoughts while holding a pregnant Lynn at the near end of the game:
The "miraculous" events are a result of the radio tower messing with your mind and the mind of the animals and people around you, making birds drop like stones, making you see a bright white light that takes you to the past and is why the cultists of both sides are so crazy. Maybe Murkoff is trying to create mind control?
This may be why when Lynn gives birth she says "there is nothing there". You and the rest of the town believes she is pregnant and at the end of the game she isn't hallucinating hard enough to think she gave birth while you do (since you've been exposed to the radio towers longer as she has been in a Heretic temple for most of the game). There is also the potential "phantom pregnancies" mentioned in Outlast 1 which may be the reason why Lynn suddenly started feeling pregnant in the first place. The phantom pregnancies have a high mortality rate which is why Lynn probably died.
Phantom Pregnancies in Outlast 1 (which is why there is no females in Mount Massive Asylum)
Now what is the ending moment in Outlast 2 supposed to mean? The scene with you praying with Jessica fading into black may be you being resigned into insanity. But what about the big ball of sun destroying everything like if it was the apocalypse? Some say Murkoff nuked the town to remove all evidence of anything that happened (since the town is now all dead [probably from a mass suicide] so they can't be of use anymore). However, remember we are looking through Blake's eyes at that point so what is true or false is really fuzzy at that point.
