I've been wonder how users have their name bolded, different colors, or different sizes.

You can't change your username font/size
They are usergroup changes. Each usergroup/rank will have a different 'html markup' (based off VBulletin) which then using HTML, they set the color coding for each rank to distinguish each of the usergroups
