No, no virus was in the file, it was simple hardcoded functions manually inserted into the client that had your client send a "/tell ___________" message that included your credentials, to a bot that was most likely using a proxy and logged every whisper message it received for the "HACKER" to read. As long as you've changed your password on RotMG and dont ever use that client again, you are in the clear.

There are probably a dozen suspects, the main ones being from this imgur album ( https://imgur.com/a/E5QboqK ) where a few people were screenshotted sharing attachments and talking about their gains and profits from the accounts in the attachments. Usually, when an account is hacked and characters get DELETED (not killed, DELETED) then the games support team can usually compensate you with revival, but not in this case, as it has already been well made aware of that everyone who has been hacked recently was only hacked because of using 3rd party clients (hacked clients) which breaks plenty of the games rules, so if you message support asking for compensation, you might just get the whole account banned, I suggest to just quietly rebuild as theres really nothing to be done about this.

If you dont have access to the email for your account any more, due to it being an old email from when you were young and dumb, or just due to not thinking you'd ever get hacked or anything like that, the only way to get your account back into your hands would be knowing the answers to your security questions, where you can email support and request your accounts email to be changed to an email you DO have access to, as long as you provide them the correct answers to your security questions.

Yes, of course, to prevent the problem talked about in the spoiler below, you definitely should change your emails password if it is the same password of your RotMG account. For all you know, they might already have accessed your email and are waiting for you to rebuild your account and then hit you again for sloppy seconds in a month or two.

Well, this is starting to get serious then. You would have to go to your email site, such as gmail.com and click that you Forgot your password, and follow the steps accordingly. Many email sites have different recovery procedures, but if you don't know/have a number/alt email attached to your main email you are trying to recover, it might be difficult.
