Fighting?

I'm probably going to be getting in a fight soon. I've never really been in a real fight just normally me and friends dicking around but like I'm for real about to throw down with this one person. I'm not a big guy at all I'm really short but have a decent amount of muscle and throw heaving punches. Does anyone have any tips or anything. I've been told to throw the first punch if we get in trouble for fighting I won't be in anymore trouble for throwing the first punch and heard it puts me at a major advantage. Over all the kid is a really big pussy. My friend fucked him up before and basically everyone hates him but then he started doing shit to my girlfriend and I'm having none of that shit. Anyway any tips for the fight like I said I've never been in a real one.
