I like the flow you had going around the render, but the background is just plain one-direction smudging. It looks abit like Motion Blur.

The render fades with the rest too much, imo. Try having a smudge go "over" him and get some darkness (burn or black soft brush) behind the render so it stands out more.

I really dont like the effect of "Apply Image > Filter > Gaussian Blur then set it to Lighten"

Its really overrated.

But i guess some still like it.

-Either way, the focal is somewhat lost in the smudging, try bringing it out more by removing some of the smudges near the right side of him.
-Little could use a little more work.
-Depth is lost.
-Seems a bit plain

tbh the whole blur on lighten thing is a kind of novice technique that really doesnt produce a good result in the end, it tends to detract from the sig
as faux was saying your depth is lost, which is still import when doing smudge tags
aswell i would go for the whole dark edges light circle technique for lighting, i would go for a more realistic concept

Neat not my taste but cool to see people's work.

-that background i like but you ruined it with the undistinguishable effects on the render they're so random
-the lighting definitely needs work
right now just do something simple like Filter > Render > Lighting effects
