Im not religious, and i don't think goverment really forces religion, people want to believe in a higher power, they want to believe that there is something else out there.
Its called Hope. Govermnent has nothing to do with it :/ people are going to believe in what ever they want to.

Religion gives people something to believe in, a greater goal to work towards/for. Government has nothing to do with it.

You two seemed to have forgotten how countries were ruled in Europe since the creation of religion, during the medieval times, the Dark Ages, etc
You view it in the form of today's Western world

Governments, Countries, the people are affected by religion, or the other way around
To put it simply, They influence and effect each other. They essentially are 2 different things fusing together into 1
