How does CS:GO Hack Patches Work?

So when there is like a little update in CS:GO of like 100MB (Example) That means be careful as they might have patched the hacks right?
Or can you be banned anyways without any sort of csgo update, even though the hack says: UNDETECTED

Can someone explain in a sentence or 2 on how this works? Because I see people reply like 9HRS ago and there was no update, so is their information on UNDETECTED still correct?
