I have a verry slow internet connection, 256kb's and could hardly get into a game let alone play with no lagg until i did this. This will drasticly reduce lagg if its a constant problem, like it was for me.
XP users see the bottom of this thread!
This is how you can boost your internet speed for all around better networking.
We are going to adjust:
-Chimney offload state (how your PC handels transfering data from the CPU to the Network adapter)
-Auto tuning level(how you recive window size based on network conditions)
-And congestion provider.
-Also you may need to adjust heuristics in order to keep changes.
First you want to Run command prompt as administrator.
Then type (
netsh int tcp show global), hit enter this will show your global parameters.
By default they should look like this;
Chimney offload state: disabled
Recive Window Auto-Tuning Level: highly restricted
AD-On Congestion Controll Provider: none.
Now in the command line type : (
netsh int tcp set global chimney=enabled).
Hit Enter You should get
Ok. If not you typed it wrong or your not running as administrator.
Then type: (
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal). Hit Enter get
Ok
Next Type: (
netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp). Hit Enter get
Ok.
When your done it should look the same as the pic shown above.
Go ahead and check your global parameters to see if your changes took place by agin typing in the command line (
netsh int tcp show global) (Changes will work instantly check it by opening your browser or starting a game and finding a match you will notice a differince).
\\\\some network adapters require a reeboot to make changes but most do not////
Now Windows Heuristics may try to reset your changes when you restart. If this happens you will notice that your internet speed is back to normal. If you dont want to continue doing this, and you like your settings you will want to disable heuristics. Repete the steps then check your heuristics settings by typing in the command line (
netsh int tcp show heuristics), or do this now to avoid complications. By default it should look as the pic below.(enabled)
To disable type in the command line (
netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled) NO = just a space, hit Enter get
Ok. As shown below.
Now exit and play! You will notice a faster browsing speed and game play as well as shortened time waiting on matchs and less lagg./yea

You may need to open your router as well. The method Here is to increase speed, and if your router or modem is previnting COD you need to open your NAT, mine allways says strick still, as before, but network connections work much faster, this method will increase the speed of data transferred and used, Not your firewall settings!
Here are the ports COD MW2 use for Steam:

Also here is a TCPOtimizer. It works for Vista, 7, and Xp. This is an easier method. Although its one more program to run. It dose not install just runs. Just unpack and Run as administrator. Select custom to make your own configuration or use one of the presets. Make sure to set your actual connection speed and apply changes before you exit. You can adjust heuristics and many other factors as well verry easly.
